‘ A10- The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, October 12, 1894 Gas line delays Keith paving REPLACEMENT OF a gas line by Pacific Northern Gas is hold- ing up completion of the city’s Keith Ave. re-paving project. “We've completed all of the work we can complete to this point,” city director of engincer- ing Stew Christensen said. ‘‘T have no control over the compie- tion of the moving of the gas line.”” PNG's Ron Vanderlee said the gas utility expects to be finished teplacement of the line by the third week of October. He said they're increasing the number of workers on the job in an effort to finish sooner. City crews can't continue ex- cavation of the roadbed until PNG finishes with its line, Christensen said, There's some possibility that the paving will have to wail uniil spring. Christensen said that could hap- pen If the weather turns bad or ‘circumstances delay the project further and the asphalt plant shuts down for the season. “tll be a bit tight,” he ad- mitted. " PNG took advantage of the city having the road open to upgrade its line sooner than planaed from two-inch to six-inch. The $466,666 grant from the federal-provincial infrastructure program is contingent upon the project being complete by a Mar. 31, 1995 deadline. Christensen had cited the dead- line constraints as one reason the city had to carry out the project in-house and not contract it out to private firms, because to do so would make it difficult to com- plete the paving and risk delaying completion until spring.
