Gawa Gyani: here April 13. DANCE FOR TWO CULTURES The Karen Jamieson Dancers will be bringing their production of Gawa Gyani to Terrace in April. According to Jane Dickson of the Terrace and District Multicultural Association, tremen- dous support has been offered by businesses, organizations and individuals. Dickson has been seeking pledges of money as well as time in order to have the dance com- pany perform here. She says more pledges are welcome, although - they hope most expenses will be covered by ticket sales. The Gawa Gyani performance is the first collaborative effort of its kind between native and non- native dancers and combines native and modern music. The cast consists of approximately 22 performers, of which half are ‘native and half are non-native. According to Jay Rankin, the assistant manager and tour direc- tor of the Karen Jamieson Dance Company, the show is not repre- sented by the dance company alone but is a collaborative effort between the company and the creators of the show and has received considerable sponsorship from Canadian Native Arts Foun- dation. The dance company performed at the Museum of Anthropology last summer and is currently touring in Ontario and New Brunswick. The Terrace performance of Gawa Gyani will be held April 13 at the R.E.M. Lee Theatre. Ticket prices will be $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for students.
