Leipnik pointed to the popular primetime comedy Will and Grace as proof that shows with same gay content are hits with audi- ences,’ He said the show, which has taken Seinfeld’s time’ slot; attains an audi- ence. of. 13 million in the U.S; nightly. “For ‘all. those skeptics in Terrace, this is just to point out that it is more common than people realize,” he said, Right. now, the field tapes are being watched by Leipnik, co-producer and former Terrace resi- dent Jason Sutherland and L.A. based director Gregg Baxter. They’re being screened for quality, and by the end of November, an hour-long director’s cut will be completed. Baxter won an academy award in 1992 for his sound work in Last of the Mohicans. Leipnik said that the material they’ve gathered most likely won’t ever be aired on TV, and will be used anly to woo produc- lion company’s interest in a fulure series. oo “The pilot will basical- ly give us direction as to what the whole series is about,” Leipnik said. “We have to still write a whole seasons worth af episodes.” -Leipnik added that de- spite some people’s angry reaction to Momma, the community was very ac- commodating to the crew. “When I watch it, [ realize just how giving the people of Terrace were, [in Vancouver] we'd face a whole bunch of red tape and bureaucracy” he said. “It’s this type of film friendliness that will lure people to Terrace.” The attention that the project has received from the media is encouraging he said. “Tye never known a project to get so much al- tention when it’s only at the pilot stage,” Leipnik said. Leipnik says he has yet to approach anyone here about screening the film, LOS ANGELES drag queen Momma drew a lot of interest in August when he came here complete with a film crew in response to the controversy sur- rounding the city’s refusing to declare a gay pride day.
