Prince Rupert’s Jason Pottie had a medal. And then he didn’t. And then he did again. It was a weird situa- tion whereby the 15-year-old Prince Rupert boy proved to be one day too old for his under 15 age class in rac- quetbail, You see, this wasn’t discovered until after Jason had been awarded the bronze medal for his five-win, two-loss per- formance. Because Jason ap- parently was not aware of the error, his coach asked him to make one of two decisions — either keep the medal, or give it to the youth who placed fourth with a four-win, three-loss record. Exhibiting good sport- smanship, Jason relin- quished the medal, even though it had already been given to him. A couple of hours later, racquetball organizers announced that the original presen-. tations would stand and Jason had his medal back. Parkes honored The special Dogwood trophy, presented by BCTV to the best local volunteer during the B.C. Winter Games, went to Brian Parkes, assistant director of food services, Parkes co-ordinated the ordering and preparation of food and spent many arduous hours working on the in- tricacies of his job.
