Enclosed is « copy of the paper “The Building Regulatory System in
British Columbia —- Options for Renewal” which was released by the
Honourable Darlene Marzari, Minister of Municipal Affairs.

It is hoped that you will study this paper and provide your comments and
suggestions on issues that may very well influence functions and procedures
of local government. While the paper deals with a technical subject, it
involves many important issues of concern to local government at this time
— liability, staff and financial resources, and training being some key ones.

This paper has been circulated to all senior elected officials as well as senior
building officials. Ali sectors of the construction industry impacted by the
issues raised in the paper have also received copies. These include the likes
of owners, designers, builders, manufacturers, and suppliers. |
