THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM TO B.R. Kirk City Administrator FROM: LR. Zahynacz, P. Eng. City Engineer — SUBJECT: Request for Sidewalk River Road (Public Works Commnittee Meeting of April 7, 1992) That Council approve the reconstruction of the east side of Shaughnessy between Marshall and Pitt River Road including shoulder widening and ditch enclosures at a cost of $15,640. That $15,640 be allocated from the Special Public Works Capital Reserve Fund for this purpose. The Public Works Committee considered the attached report from the Project/Traffic Technician dated March 26, 1992 regarding a letter from Ms. Sue Ruescher of 2263 Lobb Avenue for sidewalk improvements on Shaughnessy between Marshall and Pitt River Road for children going to and from Central Elementary School. It is expected that Shaughnessy Street would be reconstructed (including sidewalks) when the City owned lands north of the Bosa Subdivision are sold and developed, possibly in 1993 or 1994, The following options were considered for improving pedestrian access at this time on Shaughnessy between Marshall and Pitt River Road: | Option | Total reconstruction of Shaughnessy with sidewalks, curbs, an gutters, cost - $220,000. Option 2 Widen shoulders and fill the existing ditch and construct a drainage swale on east side only - $15,640. Option 3 Widen shoulder and instali a storm sewer on east side only - $57,500. As a fully reconstructed road at this location would not be needed for two to three years, it is recommended that Option 2 (widen shoulder and fill ditch, and construct swale drainage system) | be selected at a cost of $15,640. ~~ IRZige _ Attachments | I verify that there is sufficient funds in the Special Public Works Capital Reserve Fund for this purpose. and
