Re: Irresponsible Driving Habits
Dear Sir:

Reference your letter dated September 30th, 1976 in the‘above
regard, I wish to make the following reply and I trust that the following
information will be relayed to Council members. .

I have had a statistical comparison made of our traffic statistics
for the City of Port Coquitlam for the first nine months of 1976 compared to
the first nine months of 1975. Motor Vehicle Act charges have increased from
2,064 in 1975 to 3,164 in 1976 ~ an enforcement increase of +52%. Criminal
Code charges (Impaired Driving, etc.) have increased from 241 to 287 or +.19%.
Motor vehicle accidents have dropped from a total of 695 for 1975 to 580 for
1976 - a decrease of +16.5%.

The foregoing facts are not being submitted for the purpose of
saying that a traffic problem does not exist in the City of Port Coquitlam,
but rather to show that we recognize the problem and have applied additional
enforcement as required. The drop in traffic accidents is significant and
although there may be other factors involved, I am hopeful that our traffic
enforcement has contributed somewhat.

We are still experiencing problems with other Departments, beyond
eur control, in getting the irresponsible driver off the road.
