Mayor and Council September 26th, i975 Health Committee C 0 UJ N C SEP 29 1975 . Re: PoCo House The Health Committee met recently with Mrs. Joan Idler of the Alcohol and Drug Commission to discuss PoCo House. In attendance at the meeting were: Alderman Keryluk, Chairman Alderinan Ranger Alderman Thompson Aldexman Traboulay Alderman Laking Mayor J.M. Campbell Dr. R. Metler ) PoCo House Gerry Moore ) Joan Ider ) Murray Martin ) AJéohol and Drug Commission Dr. Haggerty ) L.D. Pollock . The meeting was called to discuss with the representatives of the Alcohol and Drug Commission their Proposal to take over the entire funding of PoCo House. The City has, in the past, contributed $10,000.00 to the operation of the House annually and in addition, has supplied the House rent free to the Programme. The proposal of the Commission would relieve the City of any financial obligation and in addition, it is the hope of the Commission that the existing PoCo House Advisory Committee would continue and would act as Administrators of the House. Staff recruitment and supervision would be carried out by the Alcohol and Drug Commission and an expanded programme of treatment, counselling and referral would be developed. A copy of the letter from the Alcohol and Drug Commission is attached our- lining their proposal. The Health Committee feel that this move would be very beneficial to the City and to PoCo House as the House has struggled along under the direction of the Health Committee for a period of approximately three years and the Committee has always felt that the City lacked the expertise in supervising and co-ordinating such a Programme. A greater involvement by the Alcohol and Drug Commission would provide this expertise. The re Yeseéntatives of the Alcohol and Drug Commission feel that it is essential to continue local involvement by way of the Advisory Committee and have approached members of the Advisory Committee to have them continue as Committee members and take on additional responsibilities.in connection with the management of PoCo House,
