Interfor, which accounts for about-a third of central and north coast logging, has joined West Fraser on the sidelines, apting lo use other means to try to re- solve environmental dis- putes. ~ Only Weyerhaeuser, Fletcher Challenge, West- erm Forest Products and Canfor now remain in talks with Greenpeace, the Sier- ra Club and the Coastal Rainforest Coalition. Slaco said the company * is trying to maintain jobs by shifting logging opera- lions into other areas. Interfor’s Terrace-based North Coast operations dir- ectly employs 135 workers in its logging and forestry operations.
