eee mn joes — ike his.. The second Vancouver Arts ‘Club Theatre production of the season to play in Terrace is on at the R.E.M. Lee Theatre April "11. ‘Anything by B.C.’s most prominent professional theater company is guaranteed to be quality entertainment, but for anyone in doubt the foliowing is a synopsis of Angry Housewives provided by-the Arts Club pub- licity department. Actl - The play opens at Bev’s house where she is hosting a Betty Jean make-up party. The women la- ‘ment their collective lack of beauty in the song Generic Woman; ‘'l’m a major brand in a plain wrapper’. Bev’s. son Tim, who is into the punk life- style, informs his mother that his band is entering a contest at Lewd Fingers’ punk club; first prize being $2,000. Upon hearing this Wendi begins to formulate a plan. What if the four friends form their own band and enter the contest themselves? The idea is met with great reluctance; “Larry would kill me if I came home with safety pins sticking out of me.’? Wendi is able to convince them they have to take ~ a chance on life in the song Movin’ On; ‘‘But don’t trade away your good times in ex- change for security, you'll be safe, but you’ll be sorry and I’ll be running free’’. The women commence re- hearsals which initially seem to be lacking conviction. Wendi prompts them all to ‘‘kick some ass’’ and be ‘‘meaner’’. The men begin to be concerned about the women’s new project. Wallace, Wendi’s boyfriend, while check- ing out the punk club, discovers that Lewd Fingers is actually his old: college buddy, Conrad Michaels. The two reminisce about college women in Betsy Moberly; ‘“‘The Woman Most Likely To’’. Act Il The second act opens at Bev’s: ‘house with the women deeply in- to rehearsals and preparing for their musical debut. Tim is most concerned with his image in First Kid on the Block; ‘My mom’s band could beat my band and I’m humiliated”. The anticipa- -tion for the big night builds in Saturday Night; ‘‘Gotta get it right on Saturday night’’. Wendi and Larry challenge each other _jn The Trouble With Me; ‘‘The - trouble with you is your para-— _noid need to contro! everyone all the time’. However, everything is re- solved with a triumphant per-. formance of the production number Eat Your F#$%& Corn- flakes and at the play’s conclu- sion, the women are ultimately successful in life as well as in the contest. a Tickets are on sale at Erwin _ Jewellers in the Skeena-Mall.- HOW CAN THEY LOSE?
