14 Terrace Review — Wednesday, July 2, 1986 Tips for Expo travellers by Mary Beth Menger Summer vacation time is here and many Terrace families may be con- sidering Expo 86 as the perfect holiday destina- tion this year. Here are some facts and sugges- tions to help make this an enjoyable experience for parents and children alike. First, as you approach Vancouver, turn your radio dial to either 530 or 1600 on AM for up-to- the-minute information on traffic and parking at Expo. This station operates from sunrise to sundown and_ includes daily on-site events and entertainment schedules. Once inside the gate, note the four guest rela- tions offices located just inside each gate. Here the Lost Child at Expo Program ensures lost children will be quickly reunited with parents with the use of ID bracelets. IBM terminals located at the gates match up bracelets worn by parent and child and ensure a happy reunion. There are stroller ren- tals available for $5.00 per day and change rooms for babies located ‘adjacent to all public washrooms. Emergency baby supplies such as diapers and bottles can be obtained at the four first aid stations located in the B.C, Pavilion, ad- jacent to the Round- house, opposite the On- tario Pavilion and at the Canada Pavilion. Thirs- ty little visitors will be happy to notice 96 water fountains on site ata child’ s-eye view. Telephones are also readily accessible for youngsters and are easy to locate as there are 300 available. Youngsters will be happy to hear there are five amusement rides on site. First the Space Tower with two rides in one including the Space Drop which is a ‘‘free- fall’’ ride ($2.50) and the Observation which is a revolving tower station offering a panoramic view ($2.00). Then there is the Cariboo Log Chute in which log-like boats float down water cascades ($3.00). Whole families can enjoy the 1907 Philadelphia Toboggan Company Carousel ($2.00). The Looping Starship pro- vides the speed and weightlessness of space travel ($2.50), and the ever popular Scream Machine, a_ twisting roller coaster ($3.00). Mom and Dad might note here that a booklet of five tickets can be pur- chased for $12 at a $3 saving. If the group feels like frolicking over a fantasy, try the theme sculpture Highway 86. This four- lane freeway of steel and concrete is 217 metres long and boasts 200 sculptured forms of transportation including everything from skates to subs. Transportation on site varies greatly including the Monorail, Skyrides and Ferries. My advice is to avoid long line-ups at the Monorail stations and enjoy a leisurely ferry trip on False Creek Safety record set TERRACE — Rob Dorey, general manager of Westar Timber Ltd. in Terrace commended instead. An assortment of vessels are availabie at your service and with relatively little hassle or . wait. By now you are bound to be hungry and if on a tight budget, try one of the five McDonald’s outlets on site. Don’t overlook, however, the many beautiful restaurants available within the pavilions and at fairly reasonable family rates. Be adventurous, after all, that is what family vacations are all about.
