Cribari & Sons Winery is interesting and I'm going to devote this column to briefly describing the role of the winemaster in the actual making of the wine. . Almost all of us in the winemaking business honestly believe that our individual winemaking processes are unique and personal, This is particularly true when it comes to blending wines be- cause they are the product of the winemaker’s special talfents and capabilities. A good share of my day is spent in our laboratory tast- ing and evaluating wine. My eyes; nose, tongue and in- stincts all add up to help me make my decisions about our wines, Many of our wines are blends to combine the best. qualities of several grapes. Achieving the proper blend is ine hardest part of my job. The essence of any wine is taste, aroma and color. After we have checked the blend in the laboratory, there is the final, ultimate test which is my own individual assessment and response. Naturally, these judgments cannot be solely my personal preference. My taste has to be representative of millions of Cribari cus- tomers who buy’ our wine. . ‘Actually, the role of the _winemaster. is.a dual one. I've got to be both a winemaker and ‘the average Cribari cus- tomer, It’s a job I wouldn't trade for anything. If I can help you with an answer to your wine ques- tions, please write to me at ’B. By Olga Osing this lake and neighboring Azure Leake were formed when an an- cient lava flow blocked the valley. One of the park’s highlights is the round trip on these two lakes starting from the Clearwater Lake Campground. To the north of Clearwater Lake is Hobson Lake, The waterway between the two lakes is very dangerous and visitors are warned not to traverse it, But for those 3 who are interested in travelling Irom one lake to the other a ramp and campgrounds. Smaller lakes are nearby such us Pendleton Lakes and the Tommy Archie. There are also many waterfalls. Sylvia Waterfall and the Goodwin are near Mahood Lake, Deception Falls is on nearby Deception Creek, and can be reached from Mahood Lake either by boat or by a short hike. 12.8-kilometre trail has been WR developed. These three lakes — Clear- water, Azure and Hobson—are long, slightly bow-shaped. In their vicinity are glaciers, iveficlds, creeks, und large rivers. notably the Clearwater River. The other two lakes uf impor- | lance in the park are the Murtle ‘i and Mahood. Mahood Luke is on the park’s § southwest corner, It can be reached from [00 Mile House on && Highway 97. The lake has a good swinnuing beach. hoat-launching Cleanvorer Lake: Just ove af many. Murtle Luke is considered to be one of the most beautiful wilder- ness lakes in British Columbia. lt is situated in the Murtle Lake Nature Conservancy Area. This partion of Wells Gray Provincial Park, which is about 210.400 hectares in extent, is without rouds. All natural, resources are preserved in their natural state. Blue River, northeast of Kam- Joops, on Highway 5, is the star of the gravel road and trait that , A provide access to the cast end of Murtle Lake. Many small lakes san be found in this area as well as many interesting natural won- ers. For example, near Kostal Lake is a lava flow, which can be m reached by a trail from Murtle Lake. On the Murtle River aré six 4 waterfails. The most magnificent gis Helmcken Falls which plum- mets 137 metres to the plunge pool below, Viewpoints offer striking vistas of the falls. A short distance away from the falls is a @ lockout where visitors can see the junction of the Murtle and Clear- m waler rivers. Another natural wonder that is Ma great tourist attraction is the Mush Bowl, sometimes called the ‘Devil's Punch Bowl. This oddity is caused by the Murtle River rushing for eons through a narrow gorge and carving huge holes in the river's rocky bed. Besides the grand-scale offer- ings of the park, there are the smaller ones: the many species of birds, flowers, trees, and the different kinds of animals. The park was established in 1939, and named after the Honer- able A.
