Hughes, of Hughes Holdings Ltd., J. Pennington, of . Pennington Hldgs; & Eaton & Starr Pennington Holdings Ltd., and Ron Nacht, of Eaton & Starr Agencies Ltd., Agencies re commercial development - N/S Village ' shopping area June 9th, 1977, requesting that consideration be given to allowing commercial development applications within the boundaries of Coast Meridian Road, Dorset Avenue and Sefton Street, suggesting the possibility of a real estate office next to the Royal Bank and a neighbourhood public house or "gourmet" restaurant on the corner lot, and stating the view that the alternative for the undeveloped property - either left as is, or four unit townhouses per lot -cannot be justified economically, or as the highest and best use to the core area of the Northside Village shopping area. Supporting letters were also received from the Northside Merchants Association, June 9th, 1977, and from Mr. William Luke, F.R.I. R.I. (B.C.), June 9th, 1977, as well as a survey dated June 20th, 1977, of the adjacent residents, indicating they favour the proposed commercial development. A discussion ensued, and Alderman Traboulay stated he felt the policy of the Council not to permit commercial development further northward on Coast Meridian Road at this time should not be violated, and Aldermen Ranger and Laking generally agreed with the view expressed by Alderman Traboulay. Alderman Thompson stated he was prepared to permit commercial development up to completion of the lot at the South~ west corner of Dorset Avenue and Coast Meridian Road; however, Alderman Mabbett stated he felt the conmercial development should end at the Royal Bank building. Alderman Keryluk referred to the. concern expressed by Council on ‘commercial strip' development, and he predicted this would occur East of Oxford Street on the Lougheed Highway and in the vicinity of Coast Meridian Road at some time in the future.
