The Honourable Ray Williston, Minister of Lande, Forests and Water Resources, Parliament Buildings, Victoria, 3.¢. Dear Sir: The Municipality of Richmond, some years ago, acquired 217 acres in our Municipality from the Federal Government and designated it as a Nature Park. Approvimately two or three years ago the B.C. Hydro and Power Authority approached the Eunicipality indicating that they were proposing to cross this Nature Park with a transmission line and many meetings have been held with interested groups by both Council nembers and wenbers of the B.C. Hydro staff, Quite recently the B.C. Hydro have further indicated that they are proposing Lo go chead with the construction of this trans- mission Line but my Council feel that the decision of the B.C. Byiro to locate a transmission line throech cer Nature Par'--and further that the route of the entire line through Richmond is not ecologically acceptable. It has been indicated that the proposed Line would be an eye-sore not only to the pecsle of Richmond but to all people in the area and to tourists who use the Dees Istand Trroughway as an access to Vancouver. It is further felt that the erection of poles and high wires in a Nature Park and in a ‘green belt? is in fact a conflict of land use. Ia this regard, ry Couneil feel thet under the provisions of the Environnent and Land Use Act, a Public Nearing should be held on the patter of the Arnott-Kidd #2 Transmission Line. We would appreciate you considering holding a Public Enquiry as provided under the Environment and Land Use Act. Yours very truly, ’ Chief/Administrative Officer.
