RE ee POR ‘GRADE FIVE students from Centennial Christian “School didn't let the rain slow them down as they Ass worked to clear garbage from the land beside the overpass on Keith Ave. By “MSS cS aa Working through the rain ‘POURING RAIN kept almost everyone inside last Thursday ‘morning, that is everyone except a grade five class from Centennial Christian School. - Bill Todd from the B.C. Building Corporation phoned the school the previous week, asking if any classes would be’ interested in picking up garbage beside the BCBC building by the overpass. - BCBC had been receiving a number of phone calls complain- ing about the garbage that was col- Iecling in the trees just past the overpass. Garbage blows across the over- pass from the shopping malls and parking lot, and collects there in large amounts, ‘Mills Memorial Hospital, not BCBC, is the owner of the land, but Todd decided to try and clean it up anyhow, with the help of an eager class of grade fives, taught there is. ther work or cost. The clean-up had originally been scheduled for the previous day, but arecent snowfall ruled that out. So Siebring wasn’t going to let the rain stop them. The class is doing a unit on pioneer days now, and is studying work bees, and how communilies worked together. Siebring thought a work ‘bee picking garbage would be a good opportunity for class, adding that they would have worked through heavy rain in the old days, ‘*Besides, it builds character,’’ she added. Below, students contributed their own article on the day’s experi- ences, The following is written by Jackie Smith & Olivia Bartsoff, ‘both grade five students. On April 4, the grade five kids from Centennial Christian School went on a garbage bee next to the Keith Overpass by the B.C, Build- ing Corporation. All thirty of us worked together. Some people picked five bags of garbage! It was wet and muddy, We were all sopping wet but thankfully we survived the hour. We would like to thank Mr.Todé from BCBC for helping out and supplying the garbage bags. We would also like to thank Mrs. Deb- bie Kennedy for providing timbits after the bee as a snack and a reward. We would aise like to thank the five dollar bill that our teacher found on the ground. It will be going towards pioneer activities.
