miners and geologists gets under-
way today in Stewart.

Minerals North is an intensive
three-day conference, this year
involving more than 130 pattici-
_ pants and presenters. It is expected
{o offer a preview of the coming
mine exploration and development
season in northwest and north
central B.C., along with examina-
tions of new geological data for
the region that came out of recent

years” exploration programs.

Presenters will include - John
Allan, deputy minister of Energy,
Mines and Petroleum Resources,
Skeena district geologist Dave
Lefebure, Jack Patterson from the
B.C. and Yukon Chamber of
Mines, B.C. Mining Association
president Tom Waterland, com-'
pany geologists, mine managers
and corporate directors from
several major and junior mining
firms, and technical experts from
government.

resource conference —

The Smithers District Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a
wide-ranging, three-day conference next week on the integrated
use of land and natural resources in northwestern B.C,

The conference consists of four lengthy panel sessions com-
bined with luncheons, dinners, and a trade show. Presenters
will include B.C. native affairs deputy minister Eric Denhoff,
speaking on the implications of the B.C. Supreme Court ruling
on the Gitksan Wet’suwet’an land suit; Terrace’s Pat Ogawa
and Dan Tuomi, both from Skeena Cellulose, on forestry
issues; Chief Harry Nyce from the Nass Valley with a review of
the Nisga’a land question; and representatives from the mining
industry, agriculture, fisheries, environment, and hunting and
guiding.
