Kermodes second at | Coquitlam After a couple of lop- sided victories in their first two games, the Ter- race Caledonia Kermode girls came up eight points short inthe cham- pionship contest at the Centennial Centaurs an- nual senior high school basketball tournament at Coquitlam, on the Feb. 8 weekend, Terrace lost 67-60 to the host team in the finale. They started the eight- - team series with a 96-77 win over Port Alberni. Jaci Sturn was high scorer with 22 points, while Caroline Hendry had 18 and Val Philpott 15. Next it was Carson Graham of Vancouver in the semi-final. Kermodes had another easy win, this time by a 72-44 score. Sturn again led the pack with 18 points. Hendry had 17. Leona Tank 14 and Philpott 12. In the final, Hendry scored 18 while Tank and Philpott contributed 14 and 12, respectively. Kermodes got their share of individual awards. Hendry and Philpott were named to the first all-star team. Sturn picked up a second team berth, and Tank was given honorable mention. Next for the Kermodes is the Northwest zone finals coming up this weekend at Caledonia School. The school board has agreed with trustee Dave Parker’s motion to wave a $250 rental fee so the Terrace Badminton Club can donate $350 towards the development of junior level play in the district. Val scored the winning points as Kermodes beat Vernon Royals, 72-70. For her overall play, she was presented with the Most Valuable Player trophy by referee Dave Killick. The controversial rac- quetball courts at North- west Community College opened again for busi- ness on Feb. 10. The facility will be managed and operated by Brock Waldron, a former em- ployee of the Terrace Racquetball Association. Waldron said that he has signed a lease agree- ment with the college for ' seasonal operation from September to April.
