We have told all our children thal if they are Interested in furthering their education after - school, we will give them each $1,000 a year toward their education. DEAR MOTHER: I agree with you. To give your rebellious daughter money before she's able to handle it might do her more harm than good. Your children are being offered $1,000 a year toward a college educatlon—not to spend = as become a Boy Scout, too. Qur eldest son is a freshman in cullege. He works part time and summers to help pay for his education, and he also takes advantage of our $1,000, (I have to beag a bit—he made a grade point of 4.0 his first semester.) Our problem is our second child, a daughter. She will graduate from high school next June, Despile years of counseling, lots of love and our best efforts, she is a rebel. She's been in all kinds of trouble from shoplifting to drugs and alcohol. She says as soon as she turns 18, she’s splitting and wants no part of college. My husband thinks thal when she leaves we should give her the $4,000 we would have given her for a college education so that in years to come she can't say, “You never gave me the same chance yuu gave the others.” wake?” DEAR ABBY: Whilesaying a goud-nigh! prayer with my 4-year-old grandchild, when we came to the parl, ‘If T should die before I wake,” she stopped abruptly, and with a very frightened expression on her little face, _ she asked, ‘Nana, do you think 1 WILL die before I i tried 10 comfort her by saying 1 was sure she wouldn't, Then I set abvut to revise that prayer tu give it a more positive and less frightening approach. lL enclose it for publication on the chance that some of your readers might want to use it. “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray You, Lord, my soul to keep. Please keep me safe ‘til I wake To love and serve You, for Your sake.” 1 strongly disagree, We have already spen! a lot of money on her that we didn’t spend on the others. Besides, [ think giving her money would do her mare harm than good. We would appreciate the opinion of an outsider. MOTHER, BETTY E., BELLEVUE, WASH. Are your problems tco heavy to handle alone?
