The concerts for peace, the film festival, the youth disarmament conference and, most important, the international disarmament symposium which will feature the “Vancouver Peace Proposals” will be historic events, not only for Vancouver, but also for the country and indeed the world peace movement. And as it has been since the nuclear disarmament campaign began in the shadow of Hiroshima, the issue of peace will be reflected in the pages of the Tribune. There is no other paper in B.C. that has covered the peace movement over the years, and provided informative reporting on the important disarmament initiatives. But for every one of our 51 years, we’ve depended on the press drive to keep the paper speaking out. And this year is no different as we aim for $95,000 by June 21. With this issue, the second of the drive, we’ve got $3,049 toward that objective. Some clubs have got off to a good start and are well on their way to achieving their targets. But there’s a long way to go towards $95,000 and the pace will have to quicken if that figure is to be reached by June 21. As always we’re counting on you.
