THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM TO: Igor Zahynacz DATE: July 13, 1992 City Engineer FROM: Anne T. Pynenburg PROJECT: No, 482 Project Technician SUBJECT: ROAD IMPROVEMENTS ON COAST AT BIRCHLAND Install a left-tum lane on Coast Meridian Rd. at Birchiand by paving the gravel shoulder a width of approx. 2.5 m and paving the shoulder between the driveways located at 2935, 2927, and 2919 Coast Meridian Rd. at a cost of $2,450 Request for Improved Road Conditions A. request was received from several residents on Coast Meridian Rd. at Birchland to improve the gravel shoulder on the west side of Coast. The reason for this request is because cars travelling southbound on Coast will swerve to the right and onto the shoulder to avoid cars waiting to make left-hand turns onto Birchland frorma Coast. This has produced potholes in the gravel shoulder and debris landing in homeowners yards, (See photos) The gravel shoulder on the west side of Coast is worn down and full of potholes. In this section of Coast, 3 homes are directly affected by poor conditions. Two of the paved driveways, 2935 and 2927 extend to the road. The third, 2919, has a shorter paved driveway. Maintenance in this area is done several times a year. This short term maintenance has been in the form of grading and oiling the shoulder, and/or filling in the potholes with asphalt. nolutions Short Term The option to continue regular maintenance in the area has been sighted by the homeowners as unsuccessful. The cost of oiling the shoulder, laying gravel and grading and filling in of holes comes under general road maintenance. It is carried out along with other maintenance in the area and thus is not a costly one-time effort. continued...
