For Employees of BC Transit @) Could you please explain the changes that have taken place in our Personnel Department? I know the Department is now called Human Resources. Has the Departrnent’s function also changed? BC Transit’s Personnel Deparment recently changed its name to Human Resources, to better reflect ew and existing services. The Department is a resource department; the naine Human Resources better describes its many functions. The Human Resources Department still offers all the services formerly offered by Personnel. The people in the deparunent have not changed, but the department’s structure has changed —~ to serve us better, How does Human Resources now serve us better? Instead of being one large department with many functional levels, Human Resources is now comprised of three distinct groups, each of which performs exactly the same functions, but for a different set of employees. One group, managed by Diane Moore, serves NVTC, SeaBus, PCTC, Surrey and Finance personnel A second group, managed by Donna Grout, serves Corporate Services, OTC, Accident Prevention, Training, and ‘Transit Control and Information persennel. The third group, managed by Pam White, serves the offices of the chairman, president and CEO, general manager and COO, curporate secretary, and assistant general manager-operations, as well as Planning and Scheduling, Transit Police, Engineering, Construction and Project Management, Public Information (Rapid Transit ), BTC, and Equipment and Engineering personnel. Human Resources hopes you'll get to know the people in the group that serves you. Your group is your personal team of Human Resources profession- als. They stress the “team” aspect of their function. Their new Directory of Services states, “Our team and your team should make a great team” and team members are looking forward to getting to know the people they will serve. Because each team now serves a specific group of employees, they can get to know the needs of those employees better than ever before, That, they believe, will mean improved service. Each team is comprised of specialists and generalists. Together, they can answer all your Human Resources queries, ranging from questions on sick leave, benefit plans, life insurance, dental plans, requisitions and bulletins, recruiting, temporary staff requests, and job descriptions/evaluations, to pension counselling, salary administration, and pension/benefits policies. Human resources team members are currently visiting all Transit properties to explain these changes in detail to union and management reps. Directory of Services parnphilets include the names and numbers of all your Human Resources tearm members, and are now available at all transit properties. if you have a question for the Pension, Benefits and Pay Mailbox, send it to: Editor, Transit Exchange, Airport Square.
