COMPARISON BETWEEN ONE=WAY OPTIONS

Either option to change a portion of Donald Street to one-
way traffic creates some circulation preblems as traffic finds
alternate routes to replace the missing route. On the other
hand, the one-way section does allow some additional parking In
a high demand area.

The following compares the advantages and disadvantages of
the two options:

OPTION A:

Advantaqes

1. The flow on Donald Street is natural and the one-
way section is actually transparent to users of

Donald Street.
2- Parking can be permitted on the norma! side of the

traffic tane and adjacent to the high use
facilities.
30 More parking is available than with option B.

Disadvantages

1. Does not eliminate the poor visibi| ity
intersection from Donaid Street onto McAllister

Avenue.
Zo May increase the traffic In the lane next to the

apartment blocks.

OPTION B:

Advantages

Eliminates the visibility problem at McAllister

and Donald Intersection.
2s The flow [ts more natural for McAllister Avenue

traffic.

Disadvantages

1. The extra parking Is either across the street from
the laundry In which case the north bound tane
conflicts with the south bound through lane of the
one-way portion of the street, or the parking can
be on the wrong side next to the taundry
facitities in which case it Is confusing and may
encourage people to park facing north bound on the
south bound street.

2- There will be increased traffic through the City
Hall parking tot due to drivers going part way up
Donald Street before realizing that it is not
through all the way.

3. There Is fess additional parking avallable.
