J. Facility serving Lower Mainland (and North as required) also to
provide a fecus for the Province for research, teaching, ‘
specialized treatment and outreach corsultation. Continuing
psychiatric care capacity in two other major regions could be
attached to general hospitals, and woula ltkely only offer a
general continuing psychiatric care program with the central
facility providing specialized care on referral.

2. Community residential care includes specialized extended care,
special care ("IC4"), and general care (IC3) capacity in various
areas throughout the Province.

3. Acute care to be proviaed in general hospitals around the
Province. This estimate assumes that 75 of the current acute
care beds at Riverview are retained {n the Lower Mainland
facility. Further input is being sought on the support for this
position or its alternatives. .

4. Bed capacity at Riverview/Valleyview is 1306, but occupancy has
consistently averaged well below this at about 1225 patients.
This vacant capacity is very difficult to utilize fin the current
outdated facilities, but would be available for potential
reallocation in an improved service system,
