' However, in late May the centre organized a unique three- -day conference at Kitsumkallum devoted to elders. Programs director Marianne Weston says the conference . se! was a smashing success. “We had more. than 400 people attend,” said Weston. “lt. ‘more than tripled our expectations.” Elders from Terrace, Iskut, Haida Gwaii, Kitimaat Vil- lage, the Nass and Port Alberni attended and the response was unanimous. , “The respondents... 99. 5 per ¢ cent of them said they. were over the moon,” Weston added: The goal was to present elders with other elders. who, through their work, are considered to be distinguished role models and mentors.
