The town was without power for a few hours until backup generators were brought in. B.C. Hydro spokesman Merrill Myers said a vandal shot down several insulators — equipment used to hang the power lines from the poles and prevent shorts — at an isolated part of the line July 23, When the power lines fell to the ground they set a transformer on fire, even- tually causing a brush fire which was spotted by a Hydro employee travelling to Stewart. Stewart police have a suspect and are analyzing shell casings found at the site.
