FTW ATER S EI A COMMENTS: 1. in view of the budget surpius in 1984 tne Planning Department is. requesting that equipment being budgeted for in 1985 and 1986 be purchased now. The-sum. of money being requested is a maximum of $5,000 for purchase of a portable computer. Specifications for the computer are that it wilt be compatible with other equipmeny in City Hal! and have sufficient memory to run programmes owned by the City. ‘Justification for purchase of this computer equipment is that it will inerease the department's effectiveness. Programmes where the equipment wild be usea include; industrial promotion - generating |ists of interrelated industries present ina Port Coquitiam or related to other industries here and lists of available properties Long Range Planning - statistical analysis ana manipulating the assessment roll. Current Operations - proagucing ownership and development tists for responding te queries. ARIAT RS terete eae een ae The adaition of a portable computer will permit the Pianning Department to provide a higher jevel of service to the public than -can be provided at present. For example, in a recent case of a firm seeking a location in Port Coquititam, the Planning Technician manually reviewed all of the City Assessment files To compile & list of suitable properties. Due to time constraint, the Planning Department has not been able to provide that service To everyone.
