. THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM ; C ¢ lJ N C NOV - 3 t975 TO: Mayor and Council . DATE: October 31, 1975 FROM: L.D. Pollard, City Administrator Re: Delivery of New Fire Equipment As Council is aware our new fire truck should be ready for delivery during November and the Fire Chief has asked if it will be possible to arrange to have him and one of the firemen fly back to the factory and drive this umit out. Having the Chief take the delivery personally will enable him to witness the tests required to meet the B.C. Underwriters requirements and also make sure that the truck meets our specifications before taking delivery. When the last fire truck was purchased by the City, the Chief did not personally take delivery and consequently when the vehicle was delivered to us in B.C. it did not meet our tender specifications and there was a three week delay while the unit underwent modifications in Vancouver before delivery could be accepted. With regard to cost of delivery, Silverline will allow us $700.0u off if we take delivery at the factory. This might not quite cover the cost of sending Bill and one of the firemen back to take delivery, however, it will be very close. Silverline advised that the vehicle will be driven out as they do not ship by rail as it is too costly and therefore if our firemen do not drive the unit out some other professional driver will undertake to drive the unit out for Silverline. Further to the question of the delivery, I was just contacted today by Mr. Pinder of Silverline in Vancouver asking if Council wouleé grant a two week extension to the delivery date. As you will recall, the company committed itself to $100.00 a day penalty for non-delivery beyonce 2 certain date. I believe this date is November 9th. I informed Mr. Pindes that the ~ Silverline bid was accepted over and above another company and one of the points that made their proposition attractive was the fact that they would guarantee delivery on a certain date. They estimate that the unit will not be completed until about November 26th. I have told Mr. Pinder that the deal was made on this basis and that I could not recommend an extension of time and that the penalty clause would apply. Tf would appreciate it if Council would confixm whether or not they wish to be this rigid about the delivery date. If time permits in Council Monday night, I would like to discuss
