VICTORIA Paowince ore . V8aV 1x4 a 84 cou October 15, 1975 OUN Mayor J. M. Campbell, CCT 27 1975 City of Port Coquitlam, 2272 McAllister Avenue, ‘PORT COQUITLAM, British Columbia Dear Mayor Campbell Accompaning this letter please find a cheque issued to implement a major provision of the Natural Gas Revenue Sharing Act.. This cheque will transfer to your community the sum due it under the housing starts section of the Act. One of the principles underlying the Natural Gas Revenue Sharing Act is the provincial government's conviction that increases in provincial ascistance to municipalities must be responsive to the entire range of municipal responsibilities. Among the greatest of these responsibilities is the obligation to accommodate population increases, and to~bear - part of the cost associated with housing. The provincial government is. committed to reducing that cost burden. For that reason an annual grant of $100 per net new housing unit has been provided in the Act. The enclosed cheque delivers the grant to which your municipality is entitled © in respect of its 1974 housing growth. The commitment expressed in this cheque is a double one: first, to assign a share of resource revenues to British Columbia's local governments; and second, to recognise the variety of municipal needs and responsibilities. The provincial government is confident that this double commitment will be maintained and strengthened in the future. £.
