Carried. Aldermen Laking and Traboulay voted against the resolution. Prior to passage of tha foregoing resolution, Alderman Traboulay pointed out that the whole idea of the Tree Cutting By-law was to prevent the indiscriminate cutting of trees, and suggested that the amendment will not provide for that aspect; however, Alderman Thompson stated his view that it is absc utely imperative that a person should be allowed to do what he chooses on his own lot. Environ.Protect. From the Environmental Protection Committee, May 9th, 1975, advising qComm.-gun legislation that the question of gun legislation was referred to that Committee, and that information submitted by Mrs. M. Burtinshaw and also a letter from the B.C. Wildlife Federation has been reviewed. The Committee, in its report, stated it feels the greatest need is to include in gun legislation strict controls for storage and security of guns, but does not endorse the idea that all guns and rifles should be legally registered as this would require a tremendous amoun* of clerical effort. Moved by Alderman Thompson: Seconded by Alderman Ranger: That as recommended in a report from the Environmental Protection Committee, May 9th, 1975, letters be written to the three levels of government requesting that gun laws be amended to incorporate Parts A, B and C of Clause 1 of Mrs. M. Burtinshaw's resolution which states: "L.A. Any comnercial establishment wishing to sell guns, rifles, shotguns will apply vo the Federal. Government for a "License to Sell". B. Any commercial establishment which sells weapons manu~ factured to kill - rifles, guns, shotguns, hunting knives - will provide adequate and constant security in the form of burglar proof lock up systems and alarm systems. All persons storing legally owned guns of any kind will provide adequate and constant security in the form stated in Section 1 B. within the establishment or residence where the guns are stored." together with item 1 and the first sentence of Item 4 in a letter from the B.C. Wildlife Federation dated April 25th, 1975, which states: "1, Require that every firearm owner be licensed and such licence only be obtained after completion of a worthwhile training course and a
