Scholarships started STUDENTS graduating from a unique program at Parkside Secondary School can apply for a new scholarship this year to help them pursue post-secondary education. Parkside’s outreach program is de- signed so students may complete their high school diploma at their own pace. Its geared toward students who, for a variety of reasons, need more felxibility in finishing their high school require- ‘ments, or who may be too old to attend a traditional high school setting. Last year, eight students made up the program’s first graduating Class. _ out this year.” All of those students completed their Grade [2 requirements and received a dogwood diploma - just like students graduating from other high schools in BC. Ben Matthceis is the teacher who is spearheading the scholarship program. He's looking to the community to help donate 1 inoney to the fund. ‘The scholarships are in th amount of $250 and will be presented to students “upon receiving acceptance to aan ac- creditted post-secondary institution., “We are going to give two of these Mattheis says. Once the program is established. he hopes to award more than just two scholarships. or give out scholarships worth more money. People can donate money to the ex- isting scholarship fund or can even set up a scholarship in their own name. Students applying for the scholar- ships must fill out an application. The applicants will. be judged on their aca- demic standing in grade eleven and. twelve, personal qualities and citizen- ship, school and community: service and their intended post-secondary pro- gram: @ Here, fishy fishy ‘CHILDREN TAKE ' turns at the fishing pond dur- ing.
