FUN MIXED DART LEAGUE: ‘plays .8 p.m. B14 - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, December 15, 1993 ~ Fast, faster, fastest JHE EMPHASIS on technique at Blucback training sessions over the past couple of weeks has done nothing to slow its swimmers. That was plain at the Elks In- vitational meet in Kitimat Dec. 3- 5 with Bluebacks recording per- sonal bests (pb) in two thirds of the races, Enjoying perfect weekends in _. that respect were Jennifer Kester, Liam Murphy, Marcie Pritchard, Judy Stevenson and Julie Vander- lee. a Slashing more than six seconds off her previous 50m Free mark, Stevenson also blazed to her first AA qualifying time. Vanderlee added three more events fo her list of provincial jenior championship qualifying times while Pritchard came in un- der the AA standard in her 100m Free race. Although a couple of seconds back in that same race, teammate Randee Lee Armstrong also broke the AA mark. Coach Mike Carlyle said it was speciallysignificant because Arm- strong bas now qualified in enough events to make the trip to the Port Alberni championships in February. Leading the Blueback medal parade in the Sam Lindsay Memorial pool was Chris Kerman, winning his first gold in the 11-L2 years bays division. Fending off a strong challenge from Prince Rupert’s Adam Mar- cinkiewicz, Kerman finished with five wins and seconds in each of his other two races. Noting Kerman had also gone six for seven on pbs, Carlyle pointed out that’s the third straight meet the 12-year-old has lowered his times. He also picked up another AAA qualifying time, in the 400 Indi- vidual Medley, Bringing home silver were Audrey Erb (girls 11-12 years), Tristan Brown (boys 9-10 years) and Kevin Andolfatto (boys 13- 14 years). Noting only a small group of Bluebacks had taken part in the Kitimat meet, Carlyle added the team had been without their usual complement of senior girls. Despite the absence of those reliable point-getters, Terrace had still managed to squeeze Prince - Rupert out for second overall. The relay teams (six wins and three seconds) had’ helped pro- duce that result, he said, us had performances from individuals like Kyla Rice, ; The 13-ycar-old had turned in a win and a’second on the way to collecting a higher than usual 15 points. Dylan Evans, 9, was another lending a helping hand, his 18 points leaving him sixth overall in the boys 9-10 years division. A newcomer to the club, Evans has been quick to make an im- pression. His Kitimat times included six personal bests including a AA qualifying time in the 100m Breast, That takes his junior provincial times tally to eight. After a break next weck the Bluebacks will be back in train: © ing immediately after Christmas. On the prow!
