MEMO TO: Mayor & Council July 6th, 1975 FROM: L.D. Pollock, City Administrator JUL 12 1976 Re: GVRD Housing Development - Coast Meridian Road Attached is a letter from Maureen Noir of the Housing Department asking for guidance from Council in selecting tenants for their Housing Project that are in receipt of Sccial Assistance. She advises their policy is to give priority to Port Coquitlam residents; however, they do have two applicants from the Vancouver area that desperately require housing and the Housing Corporation would like to accept them as tenants. ‘ Council may wish to leave the selection of tenants entirely up to the ‘Housing Corporation; however, if Council wishes to state a policy, a resolution along the following lines could be passed: “When selecting tenants for Meridian Village, Council agrees with the stated policy of the Vancouver Housing Corporation in giving priority to Port Coquitlam residents; however, the Housing Corporation may give considera~ tion to applicants from outside of the City who are in receipt of Social Assistance where there are extenuating circumstances." The attached letter mentions extra cost attached to permitting welfare recipients in from outside of the area. As far as I am aware, there would be no extra cost attached. The City's per capita cost for welfare is fixed regardless of the number of welfare recipients in the area. age, - cae ee ges ce Ane - City Administrator /ba Attachment.
