THE WESTERN CANADIAN LUMBER WORKER JAILED LABOUR LEADERS Paddy Neale, Tom Clarke and Art O’Keeffe pose with Jeff Powers at the party given in their honour by the B.C. Federation of Labour December 22, on their release from prison. The four Jabour men were jailed for participating in the Lenkurt Electric demonstra- tions last spring. Clarke and Neale must return to prison January 3 to complete their six month sentences. O’Keeffe, jailed for four months, was released unconditionally. Powers was released the week before, having completed his full sentence. Approximately 150 trade unionists gave the four men a standing ovation at the party which was held at Woodworkers’ House in Vancouver. THOMPSON ELECTED Local 1-71 1st vice-presi- dent Ben Thompson was elected vice-president of MSA at a meeting of the organiza- tion’s board of directors De- cember 13. As vice-president he will automatically succeed to the presidency two years hence. Ben has been one of the four employee members of MSA for the past two years. He was elected a member when Fred Fieber, Regional secretary-treasurer, who was for a number of years a mem- ber of the board, retired due to ill health. Track!!
