term at the Annual General Meeting.

This year three board members are step-
ping down after serving at least the mini-
mal three vear perioel.

Gillian McMillan has been on the Board
for at least six years and decided that was
enough, Besides, her new studio is bexk-
oning. She has been one of those valuable
people whe steps in whenever needed,
acting as secretary for a year or so even
when the Board talks too fast. She has
taken on the involved task af marketing
the book Made of Clay across Canada,
and will continue that after she leaves the
Board. She's had great response already.

Jan Turpin, after years of working with our
accounting system, bringing us into the
computer age and being there for Jane, is
expenencing her own renaissance out on
the islands.

Tanis Saxby stepped in when Aaron Nel-
son lef for Chicago and volunteered to fill
in for the last of his term. We are sewry to
see her leave. She is a young member anal
itis always good to have new veews.

CORNER CHAIR

Aund 40 for the last word, .. Since this is my limal comer char as president of the Board
af Directors 1 would like to express my thanks to al] members forthe gn vilege. [t hae been
in honour to lead the Board for the last few years: it has been enyayable, challenging and
rewarding. One wishes only to have been able to do more,

[have agreed to carry on for one year on the Board as Past-President. To my knowledge
this is & position we have never had bul is found on many arts amd professional boards.
The Past-President’s main role is to provide continuity between the ald and new boards
and any further duties will be defined as we go along. We havea great group of Directors;
['m sure that the momentum that we have gained over the last year will be sustained,

Twouldalso like toadd my congratulations toall those, particularly Cath Jefferson and
lhe folks at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, who were involved with the success of the
Canudian Clay Symposium. Dt was an exciting cay [or pottery.

Those of you whe saw Lynne Johnson's show in our pew exhibitien space at the Gallery
of BC Ceramics will have noted that the new space is already proving much more [exible
than the old one. It gives an indication of the execting possibilines for future exhibins.

Thanks to all thase who have responded io Debra Sloan and Dona Nahata's calls for
volunteers and domations for Lottery for Pottery, We are looking forward to our big
patlery Week with Lottery for Pottery May 2, Made of Clay May 5 to 7 and the AGM
Priday, May 5. All these are on Granville Island,

| hope to see you at the AGM and our other events.
Ron Vallis President

THE BOARD

Fortunatcly we are going to have two new
members fresh from the Emily Car Inst-
tute of Artand Design with heaps of en-
ergy and fire in their bellies. Jim Stamper
and Mapei Kneer. We are also lucky to
have Louis de la Torre coming with ac-
counting expertise, which is so essential.

Ronda Green has valiantly, andonceagain,
volunteered to stand for President. Last
time she had iwo little babies; this time it
will be much easier as she only has two
teenagers. HA! [t's going to be a fun year!

We hope to sec many of you at the AGM
May 5. Come and elect your new Board
members, express vour views and heur
Sally Michener and Ellen Young's talks.
Sec details on the opposite page,

Welcome to our nominees and thank you
for standing for the Board.

Alter years of service on the Board as a
member and more recently as President,
Ron Vallis is stepping down. He will serve
one more year as Past President before
retiring from the Board. Ron has accumu-
lated a great deal of experience, insight
and ability in running the Board. He knows
our community well, and has been a very
evenhandedand levelheaded president. He
never lost his perspective or his hurmour.

Remember, there are lots of committees
that could use your input. Sec you there.
