June 21st, 1976 Moved by Alderman Mabbett: That the foregoiny resolution be amended by deleting from the last paragraph thereof the words "walking conditions along the Lougheed Highway return to a reasonable standard" and inserting "a sidewalk is constructed" in its place. Lost for Want of a Seconder. A further discussion ensued at which time Aldermen Keryluk and Thompson expressed the view that perhaps it would be advisable to await the results of the School Board Meeting scheduled for June 22nd at which it was expected tle subject would be discussed further. Acting-Mayor Alderman Traboulay noted that the Board would be restricted in its actions by the provisions of the Public Schools Act and therefore the desired reply may net be forthcoming. Alderman Laking noted that previous attempts to have the Department of Highways include sidewalk provisions in their designs had not been successful and cited the Maple Ridge area where the municipality was responsible for the sidewalk construction along the Highway and suggested that a similar situation would result in the City should the question of a sidewalk be pursued. Moved by Alderman Keryluk: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That the subject of the foregoing resolution. be referred to the Public Works Committee for review and report back to Council in one week, Defeated. Aldermen Keryluk and Laking voted in favour of the resolution. In the speaking against the foregoing resolution of referral, Alderman Thompson suggested that the extent of the review being requested by Council could not be accomplished in such a short period of time and Alderman Ranger suggested that a further report to Council would result in the necessity of resolutions, in addition to those of the June 7th and 14th, 1976 Council meetings, which to date have failed to bring the desired results and further suggested that the School Board should be given an opportunity to respond following their June 22nd meeting. Acting-Mayor Alderman Traboulay also indicated that notice had been received of a Public Meeting with M.L.A. George Kerster, Jume 25th, 1976 at which time a solution ta the problem may become evident.
