The Northwest Singers’ annual December concert marks the beginning of the Christmas season for many people — and this year, their evening of music will come from classical and '. are slated for Smithers on sacred to swinging jazz and traditional carols with a twist. _ The singers’ invite you to an evening of candlelight and music. As usual the choir will sing Christmas music from a variety of eras and lands. One of the highlights of this year are selections from “A Ceremony of Carols” by Benjamin Britten. The piece starts with a haunting “hodie,” moves on to a “welcome” and a fast and furious piece entitled “this... little babe” which fills the room with overlapping and repeat- ing voices until the air is vibrating with echoing lines. ° As usual the Singers have invited special guests to join them, and there will be pieces with flute and percussion. Au- dience members will also have their chance to sing along to a‘ variety of well known and well loved carols. There will also be Spanish and German Carols — and even something from Latvia!
