Contributed by Linda Wells, B.C. Lions Society for Crippl- |- ed Children | . In recent years, Snowarama funds have been directed to the continued operation and expan- sion of Easter Seal House. It is especially apt that the money raised in a particular community actually services that community in a very real way. Since 1955, The British Col- umbia Lions Society has provid- ed low-cost accommodation at Easter Seal House for families visiting Vancouver to obtain treatment for their disabled children. In 1985, the Society realized its dream of building a new Easter Seal House in Van- couver to replace its existing facility, which was no longer large enough to meet the de- mand for accommodation. The new $2.5 million Easter Seal House provides shelter for more than 100 parents and child- ren per night in 53 self-contained units, The first floor is com- pletely wheelchair accessible _ with specially designed bath- rooms and kitchens. Staffing by very competent and dedicated personnel makes this facility a modern, comfortable haven for families far from home. The Northern Interior Easter Seal House in Prince George opened its doors in August, 1983 to provide much-needed accom- modation for parents whose children are being treated in Prince George Regional Hospit- al. Between July 1, 1985 and June 30, 1986, 4,792 persons were accommodated at Easter Seal House in Vancouver, while another 714 spent time at the Northern Interior Easter Seal House. Of those children needing treatment, 351 were under one year of age. Easter Seal House really do serve the whole province. Those staying at Easter Seal House during the past years came from Victoria and other areas of Van- couver Island, the North Coast, and Queen Charlotte Islands, Northern Interior communities such as Terrace and Kitimat, The Yukon and Northwest Ter- ritories, Peace River District, Prince George, Quesnel, Will- iams Lake, Kamloops, and Okanagan, the Kootenays, and the Fraser Valley. Easter Seal House is just one of the services that is offered by the British Columbia Lions Soci- ety for Crippled Children. Lions Society for Crippled Children, and they're getting ready to do it again. Snowarama '91 is scheduled to take place Feb. 10 on the West Kalum Road. Pledges are being collected now. Lo ever, it would not be possible without the support of organiza- tions such as the B.C. Snowmo- bile Federation and the contrib- utions of each and every Snow- arama participant, volunteer, and sponsor. Snowarama is, in every sense, a provincial charitable project supporting an essential provincial service. The Skeena Valley Snowmo- bile Assn., amember of the B.C. Snowmobile Federation is proud to sponsor this event in the Ter- race area. Snowarama 1991 is tenatively scheduled for Feb. 10 on the West Kalum (Nass) road.
