Comn.re summary of comments made at the Public Information Meeting on Wednesday, May Neighbourhood : Pubs, etc. 18th, 1977, on Neighbourhood Pubs, and advising that, subsequent to the two initial applications for a Public Licence, which were both rejected by the Liquor Administration Branch on the basis that they are less than a mile from an existing CJass "A" facility and because the Commission feels that- as there are enough liquor outlets in the area a Neighbourhood Pub would not be economically viable, Mr. Charlie Hughes, along with one of the original applicants, wishes to approach Council to obtain approval for re~ zoning a parcel of land on the corner of Dorset and Coast Meridian for the purpose of accommodating a Neighbourhood Pub, Mayor Campbell, upon advising of interest in the Golden Ears Hotel Mayor Campbell as a mortgage holder, vacated the Chair and left the Council Chamber at leaves Council 8:15 p.m., and Alderman Thompson then assumed his place as Acting~Mayor. Chamber at Members of Council generally agreed that applicants of the proposed OF19 Pome Neighbourhood Pub to be located on the South-west corner of Dorset Avenue and Coast Meridian Road, be given an Opportunity to make a presentation thereon this evening, and Mr. Charlie Hughes, acting as spokesman, re- ferred to a brief that had been made available to Council on May 27th, 1977, which he pointed out, provides a general outline of the project contempla~ ted. Alderman Mabbett then drew attention to a letter received from the Township of Richmond, May 25th, 1977, wherein it was noted there are a number of problems associated with a Neighbourhood Public House which has been in operation in thet Moaulcipality for the past year. The City Administrator advised that a letter had been received from the W.R. Beck Family, May 30th, 1977, opposing the establishment of a Neighbourhood Pub in the Northside Shopping Centre area, and poirting out that a survey of the merchangs concerned did not indicate they were 100% in favour of such a facility as was stated by the President of the Northside Merchants
