And a new, local company hopes to do a good business in manufacturing camouflaged clo- thing. which shields hunters and others from their targets while out in the bush. Ghillie suits originated in the Asian countries, says Earl Stewart of Pacific Northwest Ad- ventures and Outfitters, They're put on just like a pon- cho but have draped from them burlap and other material. The aim is to blur the outline of a person’s body so that he or she blends in with the surrounding vegelation. Those who use the swits can also customize them by attaching leaves and branches to better suit the surroundings, says Stewart. ‘What we're doing is taking regular combat fatigues and sewing the suit right onto it,’’ said Stewart, The suits are constructed without material on the front, so that it’s easier to crawl through underbrush and for quick access to front pockets. Complementing the suits are hats from which similar material hangs to blur head and facial fea- tures. . Stewart said he and -company partner Sandor Komlos have been working on the idea for about three years. In addition to hunters, they say the suits and hats will also appeal to those engaged in - paint ball games in the woods, ‘Y’ve been out in the bush since I was a baby and I've always looked for what clothing can do for me,”’ said Stewart. An American company sells a version of a Ghillie suit but synthetic material is used and-that can be-too shiny in the woods, a IN THE WOODS he'd be nearly Invisible. And that’s the aim of Eart Stewart of Pacific Northwest Adventures and Outfitters. It's new company setting up shop to make and sell a different kind of camouflage clothing line. Stewart added. The two are preparing a presentation for the RCMP's lo- cal Emergency Response Team. In addition to the Ghillie suits, Pacific Northwest Adventures and Ouifitters is also working on gear from which can be attached knives, flashlights and other stems, This gear is similar to that used to carry packsacks and is a com- bination of the type used by the Canadian armed forces and the American military. “(Qur gear can also be used by mushroom pickers. and tree planters,” said Stewart, Out & About THERE ARE new managers at the Sandman Inn.
