Carried. CORRESPONDENCES From Mayor Copeland, District of Burnaby regarding Multi-material recycling programs. Moved by Alderman Laking: Seconded by Alderman Gates: That Whereas residents of the Lower Mainland are demanding that local governments implement comprehensive multi-material recycling programs; And Whereage municipalities of the Lower Mainland are taking steps to provide curbside multi-material recycling programs for their residents; And Whereas the Greater Vancouver Regional District is endeavoring to locate and develop markets for recyclable materials; And Whereas the demand for recyclable materials is highly susceptible to fluctuations in the markets for these materials; Now Therefore Be It Resolved That the Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam request the Federal Government of Canada and the Provincial Covernment of ®rttish Columbia to enact appropriate legisiation to require manufacturers ot products composed of paper, including newsprint, glass, plastic, metals and such other materials that may be reclaimed from the waste stream, to include a suitable percentage of recyclable materials in the said products; And Further That the Federal Government of Canada and the Provincial Government of B.C. enact suitable policies and/or legislation whereby all federal agencies, including but not necessarily limited to Federal Ministries, Crown Corporations, the R.C.M.P., and the Armed Services; and all provincial agencies, including but not limited to Provincial Ministries, Crown Corporations, Regional Districts, Municipalities and School Districts give preference to suppliers of goods and materials that include a suitable component of recyclable materials in their products; And Further That copies of this motion be forwarded for consideration and support, to the Honourable Lucien Bouchard, Federal Minister of Ervironment, Honorable John Reynolds, Provincial Minister of Environment, Mr. Mark Rose, M.L.A., the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, the Union of B.C. Municipalities, the Lower Mainland Municipal Association, the Greater Vancouver Regional District, Mr. Ian Waddell, M.P. and Ms. Joy Langan, M.P.
