_ they = have - _ Transport Canada has been look- | ing for someone to take Woodcock Airport off their hands for years, but so. far there have been no takers. At one point, Transport Canada even asked the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine but they too declined the offer. The disused aerodrome lies across the Skeena River from ‘Cedarvale. Now Transport Canada’s regional director general, J.M. Duncan, has written another letter to the ‘regional district to see if they know of anyone who would like to own.an airport. Duncan says they have written letters to all local - groups they are aware of that might be interested in Woodcock but they haven’t received a single reply. Duncan explains Transport Canada’s position in the matter: "The aircraft movements into the Woodcock Airport appear to be limited and the continued mainte- nance of an airport in this location is difficult to justify." He adds that therefore declared Woodcock as surplus to their requirements and asked that it be sold through Public Works Canada. Public Works Canada first offers ‘surplus to other federal depart- ments, then the province, local government and finally the general public. , But even though no local user groups have yet taken the bait ‘Transport Canada has received one offer from the business commun- ity. Duncan says Seven Sisters Ventures have expressed an _ interest in conjunction with their trail project in the area and have been listed as an “interested party" with Public Works Canada. And it seems likely this is the only offer they will get. Regional dis- trict administrator Bob Marcellin says he has already contacted local user groups in an effort to find someone to adopt Woodcock, but none of them were willing to take it on. Ticket issuing to. begin next week effective Sept. 10, city bylaws will be enforced and tickets issued for violations of bylaws governing street and traffic, nuisance, smoking, noise, animal control, business, and building. Drivers should pay particular attention to where and how long _ they park. New signs posted indicate length of stay allowed between which hours. Much of the parking enforcement will take place in the downtown core, but residential areas will be affected as well. For example, residents will be ticketed for double parking, parking on or near a crosswalk, sidewalk or on the yellow curb marking. Commercial vehicles over four tons will not be allowed on residential streets between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Unregistered and unlicensed vehicles on city streets (for purposes of repair, storage or sale) will not be allowed. And the City bylaw indicates that any vehicle on the street for over 24 hours will be ticketed or towed away. The licensing Inspector points out that no matter how large or how small a business is, even a home business,.a business licence is required. Fines of $200 will be levied for any business person found to be without a business licence. All construction projects, renovations, additions or new construc- tion, require building permits. Offenders will be fined $100. Police will also be enforcing new traffic regulations. Local drivers are urged to take note of the turn restriction between the hours or 9 am. and 6 p.m. eastbound on Lakelse Ave. turning left onto Emerson. Fines can be paid or disputed at Terrace City Hall. A penalty of : $200 will be levied for any project begun without first securing a building permit. _Personality and Human Relations — An International Organization Fostering - the Growth and Development of PERSONS, COUPLES, GROUPS WHO AM I? According to BCBC spokesman John Murphy, they are now considering seven locations in the Thomhill area. He says that if one of the seven sites is considered suitable, BCBC would then apply to the regional district for the necessary rezoning, and through that process there would be plenty of opportunity for public input.
