Takhar and school trustee can- didate Bob Branning both said that they didn’t really feel that it made much difference. Takhar said, ‘‘With the amount of people that show up I don’t really think it makes a dif- ference anyway.”’: Branning said he feels that most people have already made up their minds, and he doesn’t expect a large crowd. “I don’t see how it’s going to make a great deal of difference really,’’ he said, but added that if there is a big ‘‘backlash over the shop- ping issue there may be a large turnout.”’ Aldermanic candidate Helmut Giesbrecht felt it was more im- portant, and said, .‘‘I don’t know how the public is really go- ing to weigh the different can- didates and decide who they’re going to vote for. **One of the reasons for havy- ing an all-candidate meeting is so that you can get your message out, but you rely considerably on the media to do some of that, and if they. don’t, then it wastes a lot of effort,’’ he said. Giesbrecht suggested that the city could help by booking the theater for the Jaycees so they wouldn’t have to wait until after the nominations to organize the forum. He said that in this way a public meeting could be held the week following nominations. Trustee candidate George Kozak’s comments were similar, but he suggested going even fur- ther with an open line show im- _ mediately following nomina- tions, ‘‘to héat things up”’, and an. all-candidates forum the following week. **I feel that the public forums © are good, but we’re running it way too late, and that forum won’t have that much. effect, ” he said. Aldermanic candidate Danny Sheridan said the forum had been run late before. ‘‘It sort of happens each year,’’ he said, Pool — continued from page 1 the city.
