THE OMINKCA HERALD, WEDNESDAY, JULY 18, 1923 —— Women will know, . This to be Truel Haven't you found this to be trus---that one bateh of. flour will give you certain results but that the next time you bought the same brand your resulta would be quite different. Now, the. big flour companies employ chemists to see that their flours pen are kept to a constant standard. Drugs, like flours, may be Poa thoroughly pure but of a variable standard, Think what this | means in the effectiveness of your doctor's prescreptions. . Ormes buy their drugs only from’ manufacturers ~ who guarantee that their products are not only 100 per cent, pure, but that their strength is as unvary- ing as the daily round of the sun. - ORMES LIMITED The Pioneer Druggists ‘The Rexall Store Prince Rupert, B. CG NEW FORD MODEIS | * (Health Service Of the Canadian Medieml Assoctatian | ‘LIFE EXTEN SION During the past fifty years, fifteen yeurs have been added to the life ex- pectancy of each new-born infant. This ‘thas come about chiefly because ‘the prevention und treatment to acute in- fectious disease has been used. . The acute communicable diseases, such as mensles , diphtheria, typhoid ferer and scarlet fever, ate diseases ‘jof enrly -life. It is generally known that they are. communicable and dan- gerous. It is agreed that they should be placed undér the control of health nuthorities and that they are a state of responsibility. Other acute infectious Giseuses, such as the summer diarrhoea of infituts, are being Successfully com- batted. As i result of modern health ‘work many more people live to reach fifty yeurs of age, but those arriving at the age of fifty have not any greater ex- [pectancy of life than had those of the _We received a carload of the ; same age during the past few ‘decades In later life, the individual is thé victim, not so much of acute diseases but what are called the chronic deg- enernte diseases. These latter are the result of the primative wearing ‘out or breaking-down of one or more Parts of the body. In later life also there are infections These infections are not acute as’ in early life, but they are chronic.. They are dangerous because they are in- sidious in‘ their origin, hidden and dif- ficult to recognize. They do not des- troy life by reason of the damage they do at the point where they exist, but by the damgge done to parts dis- tant from this point, through the poi- son they pour into the blood stream. Absessed teeth and infected tonsils are such dangerous foci of infection. Carried for years with little or no - }discomfort, they are continually poison- ing the blood straem and, sooner or later, they eause damage to the heart blood vessels, kidneys or other organs. If the human life after fifty is to be prolonged, such foci of infection must be discovered and removed. The Periodic Health Sxamination offers the practical means ‘for doing this. | -Questions concerning healto nd- dressed to the Canadian Medicat Asso- ciation, 184: College St, Torenta, will be ‘answered.
