They endured much inconvenience and personal expense in the course of providing us with their very valuable services. These over- sights were inexcusable ance and appreciation for their generosity were heard throughout the evening and afterward. Mr. Bennett’s TV appearance Feb. 5, Mr. Skelly’s reac- tion, and the reaction to the reaction has heated up what appears to be a propaganda war. Personally, I find these battles mean- ingless, devoid of value and classify them as rhetoric. It seems to have a lot to do with getting Sincere thanks To the editor, We would like to ex- press our sincere thanks to Dr. Redpath and the staff of Mills Memorial Hospital for the care and attention given to Bob Acton, We would also like to thank our friends for their thoughtfulness and support at the time of his death. Betty Campbell President Heart Foundation Terrace, B.C. A Bountiful Harvest of Replies Comes From Our Classified Ads - Terrace Review — Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1986 5 opportunity Reaction to the reaction elected and very little to do with a better society. The government, in my estimation, has failed the average person in B.C., and I believe they have failed in relation to small businesses. The NDP opposition, on the other hand, seems to show very little acuity in putting forward ideas to help better our economic and social predicament. Skelly has tended to do badly against Bennett in the legislature when they confront each other one- to-one. A failing government and a weak opposition may both inevitably resort to a propaganda war of mistrust and fear; the underlying mentality is that the left is sometimes seen as tend- ing towards Communism and the right is some- times portrayed as tend- ing towards Fascism, We can no longer afford fearful negativism based on continual confronta- tion; we need hopeful opportunity. It is the nature of polarity politics to focus on the extremes. Even if the Socreds and the NDP find common ground, there will always be disagreement and con- frontation because of their different polarity foci. It is a situation in which one might be 99 percent correct in pre- senting a view, but the opposition will perhaps take the one percent which is incorrect and blow it up to make peo- ple believe it is everything. , What polarized people and groups don’t seem to realize is the possiblity of standing anywhere on the political spectrum, and with a common focus, finding co-opera- tion, It is my opinion that a great strength of democracy is having diverse views and per- spectives, but it must be built on a foundation of mutual respect. We seem to lack this in Socred and NDP politics. It is time for change and time for a middle focus. What could we build if we worked together? W.M.
