A story. both strange and sad. .
OF the day:the Royal. Bank was robbed
_ «By a:teacher who turned bad. -
“He was young and happy a friend to all
A favourite, ‘truth to tell.
':He played: the accordian, bless: his heart,
And he taught our children well. ~
“Our policeman’s name was Sergeant Kneff,
“We ‘only had one it is true,- ©
“but Terrace was a-quiet town,
He. didn’t have. much to do..: 7
: The Royal Bank: was a snazzy place,
“To the town folk, big and new, ©
- And across the street was Sergeant Knef

“That fate would soon destroy =. 1s
- The life of one — who would it be,
_The Sergeant or the boy?
Qne sunny day our Sergeant Kneff:
- Was playing cards with the boys, —
_ When the Bank alarm began to ring,

~ Sent: ‘the card players out on ‘the run,
- Then went to the closet as quick as he could
To. find himself a-gun.

The card: players shouted, ‘It’s bad!?’~ .
And into Joe Schultzik’s ‘Store they all rai
‘And took every gun that he ‘had; a
Away to the Bank they flew. in a panic. oe
“And crashed through the door — Oh what. funl=
__. The robber, ‘quite calmly, jumped out of: the window
‘ac and Sergeant Kneff looked for his gun. ; |

The town folk in hot ‘pursuit,
-And-with him he carried the loot. -

Ob: Lord! How. that fellow could run!”
He raced through. the trees, lost the posse. e-with ¢ ease,
“aacand the Sergeant still looked for. his gun!
He got to the river and there: his. friend.
With a boat. all ready to go er ust fh
a For the boat had a hole, don’t you know... ~
_And they jumped to their feet with the noise. * Qur teacher was clever, but he-was outdone, —
“Sit down, sit down’’, the Sergeant said, 2 \.. . For his pal had a plan of his own. .
: : “That bell is on the fritz, sn sts .. v7 ).-) "He grabbed all the money, jumped out of the: boat,
It rings and rings, but nothing’s wrong, And left our poor robber to. drown,
_ It’s time that it was fixed.” 0.05 . Next day Sergeant Kneff was searching the woods,.
While at the Bank, I do not lie, oe As any policeman would: do.
. Our accordian player stood |, When out staggered .a stranger, all rumpled ‘and wild,
- With gun in hand he threatened to take Who confessed all his sins; (Wouldn't you?) .-
The money if he could. He said he had taken- the money and tried.
The bell-at the station continued to Ting ‘to-swim ‘cross the river, oh dear. «= *.”.
“ §0 Sergeant Kneff said ‘‘Well, : -The:bag, it was heavy, and dragging him down
I better walk across I guess, ~~“ “His. death was.ever so near. -
_ and give that Banker hell.’’. He was tossed by the torrent, quite out of control
‘Alas, alack, when he reached the ban Till he found himself thrown to-the shore.
-He was very surprised tosee, fh

So. ‘that is the story, believe itor not.-

- Of the day Sergeant, Kneff got his man. |
