ENGINEERING:

Administration provides the office management and support services for the Engineering and
Operations divisions including: centralized records, project accounting, secretarial, workorder
controls, and administers contracts.

Engineering Division prepares studies, design standards, plans and svecifications, property
descriptions and inspection services. The division provides field engineering services, survey
work, computerized mapping and record keeping services. It also provides assistance to
developers and other City Departments in the processing of Land development and Building
projects. Liaise and oversees the work of Engineering Consultants hired by the City.

Prepares conceptual designs and cost estimates, designs construction projects and administers
projects undertaken by ccatractors.

Investigates street and traffic problems and prepare reposts with recommendations. Maintains
an annual traffic counting program for major streets and intersections in the City.

Analyses City infrastructure systems using current computer models to determine adequacy of
existing facilities and identify any need for improvements and upgrading. P.eview applications
for private projects involving public properties and issue, required permits (Highway Use
Permits, etc.)

Liaise with various extemal agencies on matters pertaining to the City (i.e. Inter municipal,
GVRD, Utility Companies, Provincial and Federal Agencies).

Participate in addressing matters of environmental significance such as pollution control and
energy conservation. Designs, implements, and administers recycling, composting and
hazardous waste disposal programs.

OPERATIONS DIVISION:
Maintains and operates the City’s infrastructure system within approved budgets.

Responds to general public complaints relating to the City’s infrastructure and provide
investigative services.

Public works section is responsible for works that include resurfacing of roads, street sweeping,
pothole patching, snow and ice control and traffic signal maintenance.

Utilities section maintains all water and sewer facilities within the City. Responsibilities
include operatio:: and maintenance of watermains, hydrants, P.R.V. stations and various pump
stations.

Trade and Sanitation section provides maintenance and refuse collection services. Maintenance
service is provided to designated civic and City owned buildings. The sanitation crews provide
weekly refuse removal service throughout the City. The City is unique in that it provides a
service which results in the collection of just about everything except hazardous waste. The
recycling crews provide a weekly curb-side collection service.
