Traboulay Mayor : City of Port Coquitlam City Hall 2580 Snaughnmessy Street Port Coquitlam, 8. C. V3C cA& Qear Mayor Traboulay: This is tc request the removal of the tall trees planted in the median of the Lougheed Highway between Westwood Street arid Hastings Street. Some reasons are: 1) The tall trees create a visual barrier preventing people travelling east From sesing the businesses on the morth side and people travelling west from seeing the businesses om the south side. These businesses need visability ta compete im an ever more competitive market place. Many oF the potential customers are coming to the businesses for th First time and have trouble Finding them. Most retail businesses require a strong visual impact to bring its products amd services to the attention of potential customers, and some amount of this visa- bility is demied to these business operators. The visability problem is getting continually worse as the trees grow wider and thicker. The trees create an unsafe visual barrier for pedestrians. Net only are pedestrians otscurred by the trees sco when they step off the median te cross the street there is mo warming but the pedestriams have to step right onto the curb or cnto the road in order ta see because tne trees are so wide now. The tall trees are an unfair hindrance to the affected businesses be- cause Similar medians do mot have tall trees. Why should similar busi- nesses with similar highway fromtage be treated differently? The Lougheed Highway heacling east from Shaughnessy is virtually identical in dimensions, age, amd constructiom yet the median omly has law lying ALDERMEN . shrubbery. The new Mary Hill bypass does mot have a planted median at BR KIRK KS. Taylor. AT Direct Lines @- Service: 464-7377 or 526-6747 @- Parts: 464-6631 of 526-9626 @- Body Shop: 464-2233
