CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM FIRE DEPARTMENT MEMO FEB 1- {988 TO: B. Kirk, DATE: January 28, 1988. £ City Administrator. : FROM: J. Botleau, : Fire Chief. SUBJECT: Purchase of Rescue Equipment Vehicle. a RECOMMENDATION: 1) That the City of Port Coquitlam purchase the rescue/equipment vehicle from Hub Engines and Equipment Ltd. Abbotsford B.C. for $134,893.00 plus 6% Sales Tax of $8,093.59 = $142,986.58. 2) That the fire door at Number 1 Hall be modified for the vehicle at a cost of ; $1,778.00. BACKGROUND & COMMENTS: While preparing the ten year Capital Budget request forms, that were based on 1985 dollars, the price of replacing our rescue vehicle was $120,000 plus i provincial sales tax. This figure was not updated for our 1987 Capital Budget, thus the reason for the $23,000 over our projected amount. Discussing the amount with Hub, we were informed that the greatest increase was in the truck chassis, 154 in 1987. In our 1987 budget talks, I related to Council, that the purchase of a rescue vehicle was similar to a fire pumper, the cost would be spread over two years. This proved not to be the case for a rescue vehicle, thus the reason for waiting until 1988. If Council approves the purchase of this rescue/equipment vehicle the $143,000 would come from the fire department's budget as follows: 1987 Equipment replacement balance = $ 77,700 1988 Equipment replacement account 60,000 1988 Small equipment 29300 | $143,000 sO This rescue/emergency vehicle will also replace the 1969 Econoline van that is now being used as a hazardous material response vehicle and the Econoline van | will be sold. Also at this time I would like to make Council aware that history is repeating itself. Some of you will recall the extensive renovations that were required in 1980 because of the limited height of our truck bay door for the Hi Ranger Pumper. The committee working on the specifications for the new rescue/emergency vehicle were unable to keep the vehicle's height to our present door height, thus necessitating modification to one bay door. Overhead doors that are presently doing our repairs and maintenance have estimated $1,778.00 to make the necessary changes to give the proper clearances. This amount would come from our present Fire Hall Maintenance Budget. ns JB/ms
