SUBJECT: Enforcement and Investigative Skills Course 1982 In October 1982 I was very fortunate to be allowed to attend an eight day course on Enforcement and Investigative Skills. I found this course. to be very beneficial and informative and will help very much in my day to day work as Enforcement Officer for the City. Twenty-five attended the course with four of us being from out of the City of Calgary. A Lawyer from Winnipeg, 4 lady Enforcement Officer from White Horse, N.W.T., an Inspector from Nova Scotia and myself. On the first day Mr. O.N.. Channan instructed most of the items which dealt with the Judicial System and also a video taped Mock Trial which was very informative. The second and Fourth day dealt with Investigative Skills, with Mr. O.N. Channan dealing with the Police Act also G. Stalinski instructed us on Public Awareness, statements Co media and the responsibility of the Bylaw Department. Day three dealt with Public Contact such as dealing with angry people, listening and drawing out relevant information and a film called "Pack Your Own Chute’. which was very good. and Seven dealt with Presenting Evidence In Court. Direct and ct, Gas and Electrical Protection Act. A time was spent on the witnesses aspect of the Court some time on Days Five, Six Indirect Evidence, Fire Prevention A considerable amount of this was instructed by Mr. tT. Sturgeon. Mr. O.N. Channan spent the Municipal Government Act om the Seventh day. On the eigth day we went to the Calgary Court House, we had three Mock Trials we were divided up into teams for this. We concluded this day with an evaluation, all attending found the course to be very helpful. I would like to thank you for letting me attend.
