Mayor & Aldermen - April 10th, 1975 . R.A. Freemar, City Clerk oF Q agi APR 14 i975 Attached is a Photocopy of a letter from the British Columbia Telephone Company dated March 19th, 1975, and this letter is the official advice to the City of the Telephone Company's application for a rate increase. We have photostated one or two pages from the application that we thought would be of interest to Council and a copy of the full submission is available in our office. In discussing this subject with Mayor Campbell he suggested that although the City should not take a position with respect to the amount of the rate increase itself. the City should once again try to have telephone rates equalized: throughout the Regional District and the suggestion was made that the ‘Council. might want to. advance this Proposal to the Greater Vancouver Regional District for discussion and possible preparation of a presentation tot the Telecommunication Committee of the Canadian Transport Commission. “In reviewing the attachments to the Telephone Company's letter, Council will quickly see the variety of rates that are now applicable in the Greater. Vancouver Regional District. and, as Council is well aware, those areas with the highest rates usually have the 1 most restricted free-calling privileges. . Mayor Campbell suggests that even if complete equality cannot be obtained at one time the Regional District should at least be encouraged to take the first steps towards this end.
